My Story
I’m Denise Searle. My journey began in 2011, when my husband Roy and I were approved as therapeutic foster carers. Over the fifteen years we’ve spent caring for children affected by trauma, we became acutely aware not just of the nationwide shortage of foster carers, but of the nationwide shortage of specialised residential children’s homes too.
After we adopted Katie, our first foster daughter, we experienced firsthand the challenges of finding suitable supported living accommodation for her when she wanted to leave home and become more independent. It’s a story repeated across the country: a nationwide shortage of supported living accommodation, on top of an already severe shortage of children’s homes.
We’ve seen the tragic, sometimes fatal effects of not being able to find the right kind of supported accommodation, and the huge positive change that happens when the right support and home is found. This personal journey revealed the stark reality of a housing crisis facing vulnerable adults and children across the country.
Determined to make a difference, I founded Lifefix to bridge the gap between those who need safe, supported housing and children’s homes, and the providers and investors who can deliver them. Lifefix’s mission is rooted in compassion and a deep understanding of how the right environment can transform lives.
Lifefix has grown from that first search for the right home into a specialist consultancy, brokerage and education hub for supported living and children’s homes. We work with providers and investors to close the housing gap safely, ethically and sustainably.
