Frequently Asked Questions

There is not an exact definition of hypnosis but all descriptions agree that it is a normal natural state that we enter into several times a day.

When we daydream or drive our cars on ‘autopilot’ or anything where we are so engrossed in the activity that we are not fully aware of what is happening around us then we are in a state of hypnosis. It is not always done in an ‘eyes closed’ trance and the client is often alert and talking to the therapist during the therapy.

You remain in full control when in hypnosis and can bring yourself back to full awareness anytime you wish. We don’t give up control of our mind when we are driving or engrossed in reading a book, in situations like this you are in an hypnotic trance. You will never divulge information you don’t want to disclose as you are always in control.

The LifeFix VGBH Programme is a six month fully supported programme. From Day 1 of your weightloss journey I help you discover and overcome the ‘baggage’ and emotions from the past that are at the root of your overeating. You are fully supported weekly with personal  1-2-1 and online video sessions (i.e facebook messenger) throughout the first 3 months and the same support is available as and when you need it for the next 3 months. We will deal with all the known problems from your past that have formed the unhealthy eating patterns any emotional problems that arise during that time leaving you slimmer and healthier both in mind and body.

I am accredited in a variey of treatments and therapeutic protocols. I have addtional training in the BLAST Technique EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) which is used to treat  PTSD. It is based on the EMDR model but works much faster than traditional EMDR reducing the chance of retraumatising the patient. I am also an accredited practitioner for Kinetic Shift, a non hypnotic method of reducing anxiety, stress, PTSD symptoms and pain,  a STEPS Pain Elimination Practitioner, The Blueprint Practioner and other modern non hypnotic methods.

Most of the treatments and protocols I use can be done ‘content free’. You do not have to tell me all about ‘it’ if you can’t. I need to know how it makes you feel, the emotions it creates and where in your body you feel them. The details aren’t required, you and your subconscious mind know what they are.

It’s similar to drifting off to sleep at night or when you’re just waking up in the morning. That stage between not quite awake and not quite asleep. Everyone experiences it differently but most people find it extremely relaxing. You may also enjoy a very deep and restful sleep the night following your therapy.

We start by taking an indepth consultation including your medical history and what you want to see or feel at the end of your therapy. I prefer to do this via Skype or other video messaging before the session but can be done on the first session if necessary.. This allows me to prepare a bespoke therapy plan for you in advance of the session itself. I use a range of techniques to help relax and guide you into hypnosis or whichever method I  have decided best meets your needs and work with you towards achiving your desired goal. After a session you may feel uplifted, more positive, lighter and very relaxed. Often change is very subtle, as I work with you subconscious mind which you are not normally aware of so you may just notice a very positive shift in how you are feeling. The unconscious part of your brain is the part that works automatically without you having to think about it. It’s what keeps you breathing, what senses danger or recognises smells etc. The changes begin to start immediately but filter slowly from the subconscious to the conscious mind. Things should feel a bit different straight away and you should be aware of change or notice that things seem ‘different’ after a few days and this continues to build over time.

Stage hypnotists use hynosis for entertainment. The people who agree to go on stage go with the full knowledge that they may do something silly and give the hypnotist permission for it to happen. As explained earlier, you are always in control so unless you give me permission to make you quack like a duck it can’t happen!

Each session is 50 minutes long but if you need a little more time you will get it without further cost.

It is impossible to judge how many sessions you may need up front but this is always discussed after the first session so there are no nasty surprises. Many issues  can be resolved within 4 sessions but longer term deep seated issues  especially those related to childhood trauma may take longer. Single (adult) traumas and PTSD are often resolved in 3-4 sessions, fears and phobias can often be overcome in 1-2 sessions but everyone is unique and your treatment may take more or fewer sessions.
